Hello New York!

Hi from over seas! There will be an album to listen to in the future, its being worked on as we speak. For now you can listen to the new Dr Who released last week and Alibi released late last year. If that's not enough to keep you going then tryout our myspace / youtube to catch up what we have been up to in the last couple of years, hope it tickles your taste buds. Tom

Posted Thursday, November 19th, 2009
Hi folks, Just to let you know that we're going to be driving up from Plymouth to catch you in Exeter tomorrow night, any idea what time you'll be on stage, as then I know how fast I'll need to drive! On another note, seen you guys many times over the years (Maker festival, Shambala, Ashton court and the Bell in Bath) but your Arcadia performance at Glastonbury this year really blew me away (just caught up in the magic I guess!) anyway really looking forward to seeing you tomorrow, and can't wait for the debut LP. Best wishes, Dave.

I´ve just realised that the night we´re playing at the Raglan festival, we´re up against none other than none other than Nicky Campbell (of ´Wheel of Fortune´ and ´Watchdog´ fame), who will be premiering his debut album at the venue down the road. It´ll be just like the time we played the bandstand at Glastonbury while Jay-Z was on the main stage.

Hey guys, my name’s Laurie and I’m writing on behalf of Caudwell Children’s Charity. We work in providing specialist equipment and treatments to severely sick and disabled children in the local area. Were a national charity, but all of the money raised in Bristol would benefit the kids living there. The reason I’m getting in touch is to see if it would be possible to do a bucket collection at one of your gigs, I’ve always been a big fan and I think it’s great that a local group could possibly help local children. Looking foward to your response! Laurie.

Saw you in Southampton and I got two suggestions for you. First, Nic should consider playing bass sax since he is so keen on playing low notes. It would be great for the band too. And how about that Netty? Whatever you do don't loose her. I almost fell in love with her...anyway...to the point...I would suggest you let her do some screaming solos, it sure looked as she has the chops and confidence to do it! Would be awesome!

Re: Pay for Netti?

Posted Tuesday, July 31st, 2007
Ah, Neil. I notice you've substituted the 'y' for an 'i' since your last posting on this board. Are you still talking about the same Netty, or is there a Netti out there that we don't know about? Is she better than our Netty? I doubt it. Maybe it's a rare genetic mutation - an anomaly resulting from the less than scientific conditions under which I swabbed Netty's trumpet for those samples I sent you, causing this strange new variation. With further research, I am certain we will be able to harness this phenomenon, creating a whole wave of Netties with a variety of more and more complex spellings... Glad you liked the tunes.

Jah Humphreys Dr Who Dub Explosion

Posted Sunday, June 10th, 2007
I've taken a bit of a liberty & re-mixed your brilliant Dub version of Doctor Who. I wanted to see what it was like mixed with the original 1963 Delia Darbyshire version. Different keys, different tempo's & riffs in a different order, ment that it took me about 3 weeks to do on Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/). Also threw in a quick sample from Mutagene's "Planet of the Evil Dub" & the "Scream" and "Spacenoise" from previous TV versions to highlight the beginning and end of the track. I think the overall result is pretty damn good, tho I say so myself as shouldn't! I'd love to send you an MP3 to see if you approve. Could you let me have an email address to send it too? All the best, Nik.

Why so short...?

Posted Tuesday, July 25th, 2006
Just been reading a few comments on the myspace page too (www.myspace.com/smerins) Many people asking why our set was so short at Ashton Court? Well peeps, the simple answer is that the powers the be (i.e. the God Of Ashton) only gifted us a half hour set. Not complaining...ooh no...everyone gets their 30 mins, and ours was a stomper and no mistake. And the simple solution to your needs and withdrawals? August 12th at the Croft.
- Nic

Thanks to all...

Wicked night at the Bell

Posted Friday, January 20th, 2006
Thanks Sue! I had a wicked time - it was soooo good to play with the band again after so long. It's amazing to experience how far the band has come since we started in George's student house (ah yes, the wonders of the Brown Lodge) as a little group playing little pub gigs around Southampton back in 2001. Now they're a group of increasingly amazing musicians who tear apart every place they play. Nice one!

You guys were absolutley amazing, so much talent and musical skill going on, totally made my night. You also kicked arse on the stage near lost vagueness at glasto last year. Saw you guys at Synergy on Fri... on a night of shite you were absofuckinlutely brilliant. Got your cd and tried to have a chat afterwards but was a little too twisted. I play in a band based in Oxford/London called Jaberwok (check out www.jaberwok.com) + we are coming from a similar place musically (dub-infused psychadelic funk) and would really like to get you guys down for a gig sometime cos you would go down like a storm round here and I reckon we would really complement each other. Anyway please drop me an e-mail if your interested. Will definitely see you at another gig soon. Jack

Posted Wednesday, February 09th, 2005
Yes Yes, well done to all of you Smerins once again pulled it right out the top draw for a cracking gig at the beloved talking heads. Sorry I missed you guys at the Sobar on NYE but I made up for it by attempting to launch myself into the crowd and revel in the sound. However I missed everyone and landed on the floor, Luckerlie for me the Smerins love was flowing and I i was pulled back up to surf the crowd.AWESOME!!!

Big up the Southampton people - it's gig's like that which make the hangover more than worthwhile. To those who got involved with the crowd surfing, you are irresponsible dangerous people, and I love you. Last but not least "Get Well Soon Pedro" and "Nice One John - not at all bad for a few hours rehearsal time!" Peace, and silly hair. Nic. x.

This would be the aforementioned ben from saafampton (init) and I would like to add my thanks to those from Bournemouth for the blinding set at the larmer and the great 'get-to-know-the-band' session of drinking and smoking well into the early hours after. Will see y'all at the partay tonight. And Scammell, I think its a bit harsh that being from the saafampton excludes me from thanking such great bands. Poor grammar, try harder next time! Have a banana! And a great summer! But not so great that you don't come back and play in my humble garden party... Jaminbury needs YOU! Jam

Right, well.. Emily (aka Barbera) and Ben (champion chair bull fighter) have both gone on for ages about how good the Smerins are after seeing you loads at Southampton and I have to say that after now seeing you at the Lamertree, I must disagree. I would in fact say you stonkingly brilliant! Also, after meeting you all after the gig, it was discovered that you lot are really cool people... nice!! A big thank you then from the Bournemouth bunch (apart from Ben whos is from Saafampton init) for making our night, ney, weekend. You were the best band there by far! We look forward to seeing you again soon (Thursday I believe!) and hope to see you at Jaminbury! If I won't be seeing Humphrey tomorrow could you pass my e-mail on to him please. Carry on!
